Serdar Denktaş

Serdar R. Denktaş (* 1959 in Nicosia , Cyprus) is a Cypriot Turkish politician and was Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus from 2004 to 2006 and from 2013 to 2015 .

Denktaş was born in 1959 as the son of the future President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Rauf Denktaş . After training as a printer in London , he studied economics at Cardiff University.

In 1986 Denktaş founded the “Northern Cyprus Cultural Association” (Turkish: Kuzey Kıbrıs Kültür Derneği ) and was then president of the association for four years. At the same time he founded the “Association for Young Business People in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” (Turkish: KKTC Genç İşadamları Derneği ) and also took over the chairmanship there. Until 1990 Serdar Denktaş was active in the private sector, in trade and in industry. During the 1990 elections, Denktaş decided to get involved as a politician. In May 1992 he founded - together with political friends - the Democratic Party , whose presidency he took over. In 1993 he was elected MP during the early elections. In 2000 he resigned as chairman of the DP, but was reappointed to that position in 2002.

From January 16, 2004 to September 25, 2006 he was Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus . Since April 2016, Serdar Denktaş has been a member of the government of Northern Cyprus again as Minister of Finance.

He speaks English and German, is married and has three children.
