He is the founder of strategic short-term therapy (later renamed Strategic Behavioral Therapy , SBT). The SBT is a behavioral psychotherapy method. It is based on the neopiagetian psychological development theory of Robert Kegan . This makes it the only behavior therapy method that is based on an elaborate development theory of human behavior. This is something that strategic short-term therapy shares with depth psychological psychotherapies. The SBT is available in manual form. In addition, specific diagnostic instruments are available for this therapy. The main focus is on the diagnosis of personality dimensions and structures and the associated conflicts .
