Serge Plume

Serge Plume (born August 13, 1967 in Ronse ) is a Belgian jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player who has performed as lead trumpeter across Europe.

Live and act

Plume first studied classical trumpet at the Conservatory in Ghent, before completing his studies with Ack van Rooyen in 1990 at the Hilversum Conservatory . At the age of 18 he already appeared in the BRT Jazz Orchestra and the BRT Big Band ; He also played in the act Big Band led by Michel Herr (Album Extremes ) and numerous jazz combos.

Plume then worked for the Dutch Skymasters and the SWR Big Band . Together with Frank Vaganée and Marc Godfroid , he founded the Brussels Jazz Orchestra in 1992 , with which he was involved in numerous productions and publications. He also belonged to the Orchester National de Jazz when it was directed by Laurent Cugny in the mid-1990s (and is involved in the CD Merci, merci, merci , Verve 1997). For two years he was a member of Hazy Osterwald's band ; he also performed with the Kings of Swing Orchestra . As a studio musician he is active with the Jay Horns , with whom he has accompanied, for example, Jamie Cullum , the Four Tops , the Temptations , Lionel Richie , Al Jarreau , Kid Creole and the Coconuts , Michel Legrand and Madeline Bell . He also worked with Quincy Jones , Al Jarreau, Toots Thielemans , the RTL Big Band , the WDR Big Band Cologne , Viktor Lazlo , Caterina Valente and Marc Matthys. The discographer Tom Lord lists him on 24 recordings in the field of jazz between 1982 and 2012.

He was also a teacher at the Conservatories in Ghent and Antwerp (1991–1997) and at the Lemmens Instituut in Leuven (2001–2003).
