Sergei Wassiljewitsch Lebedew
Sergei Wassiljewitsch Lebedew ( Russian Сергей Васильевич Лебедев ; born July 25, 1874 in Lublin , Congress Poland ; † May 2, 1934 in Leningrad ) was a Russian chemist.
Live and act
Sergei Wassiljewitsch Lebedew invented the synthesis of butadiene elastomers . The polymerization of butadiene with alkali metals is first described in 1910, independently of the German chemist Carl Dietrich Harries , the English chemist Francis Edward Matthews and the Russian chemist Sergei W. Lebedew. Lebedev invented the process of anionic solution polymerization of liquid butadiene in the presence of sodium. During the Second World War, the Lebedev process was also used by German industry. Lebedew also developed the Lebedew process, named after him, for the production of 1,3-butadiene by dehydrodimerizing ethanol .
