Sergio Escobar (theater director)

Sergio Escobar (born November 3, 1950 in Milan ) is an Italian theater director.

Life

Escobar holds a PhD in philosophy of science from the University of Milan . In 1979, after working in the cinema, he began his theater career in the sponsorship and media sector of La Scala , where he founded the Philharmonic Orchestra in 1985 with Claudio Abbado . Since 1985, after his work in the television sector at Fininvest, he was also assistant to the artistic director Carlo Maria Badini . From 1990 he was director of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna , moved to the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa in 1995 and to the Opera of Rome in 1996 . Since 1998 he has been director of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano and president of Platea, a foundation for theatrical arts that represents the 18 principles of the Italian Teatro stable . In 2001 he received the Tagliacarne Theater Prize .

Didactically he worked at the University of Bologna , the Luigi Bocconi University of Economics , the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart , the Milan Polytechnic , the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Showa University of Music in Tokyo.

At Expo 2015 he is a member of the Organizing Committee for Cultural Affairs.
