Sergio Sánchez (born October 1, 1982 in La Pola de Gordón ) is a Spanish long-distance runner .

In 2008 he was the Spanish indoor champion in the 3000 meter run and qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Valencia . There he finished eighth. At the 2009 European Indoor Championships in Turin, he was fourth over the same distance. In the same year he started at the World Championships in Berlin in the 5000 meter run , but was eliminated in the preliminary run. At the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin , he finished fourth and won gold with the Spanish team.

His final international breakthrough came in 2010. On February 13th, he set an indoor European record over 3000 meters with a time of 7: 32.41 minutes and thus undercut his outdoor best by more than 13 seconds. A month later he won the silver medal behind the American Bernard Lagat at the World Indoor Championships in Doha .

At the 2013 Spanish Championships, his doping test was positive for EPO and he was banned for two years.
