Sérgio Manuel Rodrigues Silva (born April 3, 1983 ) is a Portuguese duathlete .

Career

In 2003 Sérgio Silva became U23 duathlon European champion in Italy and in 2006 also U23 duathlon world champion in Canada.

2011 doping ban

In September 2011, Sérgio Silva won the Duathlon World Championship in Gijón , Spain - but he was disqualified for doping after the race, the world title was revoked and Silva was suspended for six months. Since it was a first offense and Sérgio Silva was able to credibly prove that he had unknowingly ingested the prohibited substance with food supplements, the usual two-year ban was reduced to six months.

2014 European Sprint Duathlon Champion

In April 2014 he became European Sprint Duathlon champion - alongside the German Franziska Scheffler in the women. In April 2015 he was third in the European Sprint Duathlon Championships. He has not appeared internationally since 2015.

He starts for the Portuguese club Garmin Clube Olímpico de Oeiras from Oeiras (as of September 2014).
