The coaster -Baureihen the series Bolton , Hagenow and Warin of VEB Elbewerft Boizenburg in Roßlau put three to the needs of container and coastal coordinated ship types . The type ship Bolton was the first built in the GDR container ship .

A total of 24 ships were built in three individual types. The series was based on the same basic design, which was further developed by adapting the loading space and extending it. Of the two 299 GRT variants, 17 units were created, 15 of which were delivered to the Deutsche Seereederei . Seven ships of the larger 494 GRT measured type were built, five of which went to the DSR. The shipyard delivered two ships of each type to the Soviet Union.

The series began with the 299 container type, Boltenhagen , which was delivered on January 23, 1970 with construction number 271. The Rechlin , a container type 494, ended the series on October 28, 1972.

technology

The ships were designed for the transport of containers and cargoes such as industrial equipment, general cargo or bulk goods in coastal shipping. The hull corresponds to an open ship with a double bottom.

The basic design of the series began with a container type 299 optimized for container transport without cranes. These ships were given names that ended in -hagen and have slots for 39 TEU. Similarly, the shipyard developed a design known as the standard type 299 with two movable 3.2-ton ship cranes for independent cargo handling. These could transport up to 27 standard containers and had ship name endings with -ow. By lengthening the parallel central aisle of the small container type , the container type 494 , which was built from 1972 and had 56 TEU spaces, was created.

The main drive is a four-stroke marine diesel engine of the type SKL 8 NVD48 A-2U with 835 kW power, built by VEB Schwermaschinenbau "Karl Liebknecht" , with which the single-screw ships can reach 12 knots. To improve propulsion, the ships are equipped with a Kort nozzle and a bulbous bow . The three-surface rudder system is based on the Jenckel system. The radius of action is designed for around 3000 nautical miles.

The deckhouse is arranged aft.
