Serra d'Or

Serra d'Or is a Catalan magazine published in October 1959 . She was sponsored by a group of university students. It was published by the Montserrat monastery printing housewith a monthly circulation of 8,000 copies.

origin

The origin of the magazine can be found in 1946 . During the Coronation Feasts of the Virgin of Montserrat in 1947, there was a meeting between Catalan intellectuals and Benedictines from the Montserrat Monastery despite the difficulties of that time. At that moment there were two publications promoted by the Montserrat Monastery that were born separately: Germinàbit , which was a magazine for the ancient singers of the abbey choir, and Serra d'Or , which was a magazine for the workers of the abbey was. At the end of 1959 the two magazines were merged. The staff of Germinàbit (Enric Bastardes and Max Cahner that due Josep Benet was entered) was then the staff of Serra d'Or. That is why the magazine says "2nd period".

From the beginning this magazine was a stage for the Catalan intellectuals of the second half of the 20th century . This magazine took advantage of the possibilities of cultural and political activity that existed in the Francoist regime in case censorship could be avoided. The Young Writer Retrieval , which is still made annually for writers younger than 30 years of age, allowed some important writers to appear in Catalan, including the following: a. Montserrat Roig , Oriol Pi de Cabanyes, Carme Riera , Baltasar Porcel , or Terenci Moix . These writers and many others who are important to Catalan literature published their first works in Serra d'Or .

From 1964 to 1995 the director of the magazine was the monk Maur Maria Boix . He was replaced by Josep Massot i Muntaner . From 1963 was Jordi Sarsanedas the editor. Today Marta Nadal is the editor-in-chief.

After the Francoist dictatorship, the magazine continued, but only dealt with cultural issues. The political issues have generally been removed so that any tendencies could be absent. That is why the magazine today has employees from all political tendencies.

Among the members of the management one can find important people of Catalan culture: Antoni Maria Badia i Margarit , Oriol Bohigas , Ramon Bastardes, Sebastià Benet, Josep M. Bricall , Max Cahner , Jordi Carbonell , Josep M. Castellet , Alexandre Cirici , Joan Colomines , Xavier Fàbregas (who replaced Joan Triadú ), Joaquim Molas , Miquel Porter i Moix , Antoni de Rosselló, Josep Termes, Francesc Vallverdú and Jordi Ventura i Subirats.

The magazine has a large number of employees who have different ideologies. It is also about various subjects, such as politics, design, architecture and town planning, religion, economics, art, cinema, theater, language, literature, and so on.

During the 1960s , the Serra d'Or Critique Awards were established. They have the following categories: novel, fairy tale, poetry, translation, children's literature, criticism, and theater.
