Severino Albarracín Broseta

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Severino Albarracín Broseta (* 1851 in Llíria , today Valencian Community , † 1878 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish anarchist and teacher. He played a role in the uprising of Alcoy in the First Republic in 1873.

Albarracín Broseta was active in the Republican Youth of Valencia in 1868 , since 1871 a member of the Federació Regional Espanyola de l'AIT (Spanish Federation of the International Workers' Association ) and first became a member of the Council of Zaragoza and, after its dissolution, of the Conference of Córdoba 1872/73 member of the Committee on Correspondence and Statistics and Secretary for Internal Affairs.

In July 1873 he took part in a leading position, namely as a member of a governing committee, in a cantonal uprising in Alcoy, in which workers first struck and then rose violently. The uprising finally ended with the rebels giving up. Friedrich Engels refers extensively to this event in his paper against Bakuninists and Allianceists from 1873.

Albarracín Broseta was temporarily arrested in April 1874 and then went to Switzerland for a while to join his like- minded people . He took part in the 8th Congress of the Anti-Authoritarian International in Bern , where he met Peter Kropotkin , James Guillaume and Paul Brousse . After returning to Spain in 1877, he settled in Barcelona , where he died of tuberculosis in February 1878 .
