Shōji Setoyama ( Japanese 瀬 戸 山 正 二 , Setoyama Shōji ; born January 25, 1965 in Miyazaki Prefecture ) is a Japanese beach volleyball player .

Career

Setoyama played his first international tournament in 1990 at the Sète Open with Shun'ichi Kawai . He then appeared in three different pairings at the tournament in Enoshima . He was once ninth and twice thirteenth, most recently with Chikashi Kawai , who then became his new partner. In 1994 the duo reached a 13th place in Miami and eighth in Enoshima. In 1995 Setoyama started with different partners. These included Masafumi Matsunaga and Kazuyuki Takao .

The latter replaced Kawai as the standard partner from the Open tournament in Lignano . The best results on the World Tour this year were three 17th places for Setoyama / Takao. They achieved the same result in Marbella the following year . The other Open tournaments in 1996 they finished in 25th place. They also qualified for the Olympic Games in Atlanta . There they lost their first game against the German duo Ahmann / Hager . In the loser's round they were then eliminated with another defeat against the French Penigaud / Jodard .

In 1997 Setoyama played two tournaments with Satoshi Watanabe , both of which ended in 57th place. The same result came for Setoyama in 1999 at his last open tournament in Acapulco with Katsuhiro Shiratori .
