Shamattawa is a small community in the north of the Canadian Prairie Province of Manitoba .
The village is located on the banks of the Gods River at the mouth of the Echoing River , about 750 km north of the capital of Manitoba, Winnipeg . In addition to Shamattawa, some distance away is the Gods River community , also a First Nations Indian community on the shores of Gods Lake , where the Gods River rises.
The settlement has a school, the Abraham Beardy Memorial School .
Shamattawa is difficult to access, there are almost no roads, only in winter there are skiable ice slopes . However, there is a connection via Shamattawa Airport .
