The Gods River ( English God's River ) is a river in the north of the Canadian province of Manitoba . It rises from Gods Lake and flows into the Hayes River . The Indian communities of Gods River and Shamattawa settle along the river . Occasionally it is also used by fishing tourists.
The Gods River flows in a large east arc from south to north over the Canadian Shield with many rapids , river islands and some waterfalls like Sturgeon Falls and Big Bear Falls . In the flat tundra south of Hudson Bay the Gods River joins the much smaller Hayes River, but the further course bears the name of the Hayes, which goes back to its historical importance as a trade route of the Hudson's Bay Company . At Shamattawa, the Echoing River flows into the Gods River from the right.
