The Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) is the most important security conference in the Asia-Pacific region . The annual meeting is organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), one of the world's most important think tanks . The conference location and namesake has been the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore since the first event in 2002 .

Regular participants include state presidents, top politicians, ambassadors, high-ranking military officials, security experts, representatives from international organizations, academia and the defense industry . The aim of the three-day talks is to develop and moderate a dialogue on security and defense policy between important actors in the region. As a security policy discussion platform, the Shangri-La Dialogue for the Asia-Pacific region is comparable to the importance of the Munich Security Conference for Europe.
