The Asian Leadership Conference ( ALC ) is an annual international conference hosted by Chosun Ilbo , the highest-circulation Korean daily newspaper, in Seoul , South Korea . The focus of the conference is on current political and economic issues that affect the whole world, but especially Asia.
The first Asian Leadership Conference took place in 2005, a year after the Sumatra-Andaman quake , under the motto “Cooperation and Reconstruction after the Tsunami”. According to the Chosun Ilbo, the main idea behind the conference was that South Korea, based on its own development from a developing country to an industrial nation, could take on a leading role in shaping Asia. What was originally intended as a conference of Asian leaders has quickly developed over the years into a global conference with personalities from all over the world.
The last Asian Leadership Conference was held from March 26th to 27th, 2013 under the motto “Asia's Next Challenge: Good Growth & Smart Welfare” (Asia's next challenge: Good growth and intelligently designed welfare). The next conference is scheduled for March 3-4, 2014 and will be held at the Shilla Hotel, Seoul under the motto “One Korea, New Asia”.
Current conference
The current conference from the ALC series is the Asian Leadership Conference 2014 and will deal with the importance of a reunified Korea in relation to regional security policy and the growth prospects for Korea. George W. Bush , former President of the United States , as well as many other high personalities from politics, business and research will speak on the topic.

- “One for One” principle
The “One for One” principle is a donation system introduced for the first time at the ALC 2014, which enables regular participants to issue a day pass. In this way, young adults who are interested in international diplomacy , politics and entrepreneurship but could not afford it for financial reasons can also participate . In order to be admitted as a “One for One” participant, interested parties have to decide on one day and write a short essay about their motivation.
