Shannon Eastin

Shannon Eastin (born 1970 in Worcester , Massachusetts ) is the first female referee for the National Football League (NFL). She was hired as a substitute judge during the referee lockout in 2012 . Their first game took place on August 9th, a preseason game between the Green Bay Packers and the San Diego Chargers . Their first regular season game was on September 9, 2012 between the Detroit Lions and the St. Louis Rams . Previously headed Eastin Games of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in College Football and Training Games of the Arizona Cardinals .

Although several NFL players expressed their support for Eastin, some authors such as Darin Gantt complained of Profootballtalk.com and Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times , the fact that they are the gender barrier as Streikbrecherin overcame. The NFL Referees Association stated that Eastin would not officiate in games after the strike because her participation in the World Series of Poker was against the code of conduct.

Eastin is also an active judo fighter. At the age of eleven, she was the youngest judo fighter allowed to train at the US Olympic Training Center . She won six national judo championships. Eastin is the owner of the company SE Sports Officiating , which trains referees in American football and basketball .
