Sharon Lord Gaber (* 1963 / 1964 ) is an American doctorate scientist. She was President of the University of Toledo from 2015 to 2020 .

Career

Gaber received her bachelor's degree in economics and urban development from Occidental College and her master's degree in planning from the University of Southern California . She received her PhD in urban and regional planning from Cornell University . In 1991 she became a faculty member at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln . Originally an assistant professor, she got a full professorial title in 1998 and became head of department in 2001. In 2002 she moved to Auburn University . She started there as a professor and associate dean. She held this position until 2006. From 2005 and until 2007 she became an associate provost . In 2007 she became a Senior Associate Provost. In 2009 she became Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Arkansas .

In March 2015, after a nationwide search, she was named 17th President of the University of Toledo . She became the first woman to hold this office. Her contract ran until 2020. In 2018 her contract was extended to 2023 ahead of schedule. This went hand in hand with a $ 51,000 pay rise to $ 510,000. The board's decision came less than a year after news that the University of Toledo internship program could lose accreditation. The school appealed and the program was placed on probation. At the end of April 2020, Gaber announced that she was leaving the University of Toledo to take the position of Chancellor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte .
