Shields is a civil parish and census-designated place in Thomas Township in Saginaw County in the US state of Michigan . According to the 2000 census, the village had 6590 inhabitants.

The geographic coordinates of Shields be 43 ° 25 ' N , 84 ° 3' W . The western suburb of Saginaw is west of the Chippewa River on Michigan State Route 46 .

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Shields were inhabited by 6,590 people. The population density was 389.1 people per km ². There were 2587 housing units at an average of 152.7 per km ².
