Shin'ichirō Ikebe

Shin'ichirō Ikebe ( Japanese 池 辺 晋一郎 , Ikebe Shin'ichirō ; born September 15, 1943 in Mito ) is a Japanese composer.

Life

Ikebe studied composition with Tomojiro Ikenouchi , Akio Yashiro and Akira Miyoshi and graduated in 1971 from the Tokyo Art Academy with a master's degree. In 1966 he won the composition prize at the 35th Japanese music competition. In 1971 he received the prize at the Salzburg television opera competition for Death Goddess . His Carmen received an International Emmy Award in 1989 . He teaches at the Tokyo Music Academy .

In addition to symphonic and other orchestral works, instrumental concerts, chamber music and pieces for Japanese instruments, songs and operas, Ikebe has composed numerous film and drama music.
