Shiona Baird (born September 14, 1946 in Hereford ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish Green Party .

Baird attended Hereford High School , the Mary Erskine School in Edinburgh and then studied social sciences at the University of Edinburgh . She then worked as a social worker in West Lothian and then ran a farm in Dundee .

Scottish Parliament

In the first Scottish general election in 1999, Baird stood for the Scottish Green Party. However, she did not apply for the direct mandate of a constituency, but ran on the regional electoral list of the Greens in the electoral region of North East Scotland . Since the Greens could not send a candidate as a result of the election result, Baird missed the entry into the newly created Scottish Parliament . In the following parliamentary elections in May 2003 , the Scottish Greens were able to expand their share of the vote and Baird moved into the Scottish Parliament as first on the regional election list as the only Green MP for North East Scotland. Although she was once again placed first on the regional electoral list of the Greens, she lost her mandate in the parliamentary elections in 2007 and left parliament.
