The Shipton Spire ( Spire English for "top" or "Spitzturm"; also Haina Brakk Central Tower ) is a 5852  m high granite peak in the western part of the Baltoro Muztagh in northern Pakistan .

location

The Shipton Spire is on the east side of the Trango Valley . A mountain ridge leads to Choricho , 4.23 km south-southwest . The Shipton Spire belongs to the so-called Paiju group . The northern and southern Hainabrakk glaciers , tributary glaciers of the Trango glacier , unite on its eastern flank . The Trango Group rises 7 km to the west on the opposite side of the Trango Glacier.

Ascent history

In July 1996 Chuck Boyd , Greg Child and Greg Foweraker climbed the Shipton Spire to about 10 m below the summit.

The first clear ascent of the Shipton Spire was made by Jared Ogden and Mark Synnott on August 6, 1997 through the east face. Their climbing route is called Ship of Fools (VII 5.11 A2 WI6, 1350 m).

Mauro Bole climbed the Women and Chalk route to the summit with Mario Cortese and photographer / cameraman Fabio Dandri from July 26 to August 10, 2001 .

There are now at least 9 climbing routes that lead up the east face to the summit.
