Shirasawa Homi

Shirasawa Homi (* 1868 ; † 1947 , Japanese 白 沢 保 美 ) also Miho Shirasawa , was a Japanese botanist and forest adviser specializing in dendrology . He dealt in particular with tree secretions, such as camphor . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Shiras. ".

Named after him is the beautiful fruit hybrid Callicarpa × shirasawana Makino, the elm Ulmus shirasawana Daveaudie (see Chinese elm ), and the maple species Acer shirasawanum Koidzumi (Japanese 大 板 屋 名 月 Ōitayameigetsu ); distributed in several cultivars as a dwarf natural " bonsai ", known is v. a. the variety Aureum, "golden maple".

Shirasawa Homi is the first to describe the Koyama spruce species ( Picea koyamae Shiras.), The Japanese Douglas fir ( Pseudotsuga japonica (Shiras.) Beissn.), The Japanese linden ( Tilia kiusiana Makino et Shiras.) And Tilia maximowicziana Shiras.
