The Shoemake Nunatak is a Nunatak on the Ruppert coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It rises immediately west of Billey Bluff at the southwest end of the Ickes Mountains .
The first aerial photographs were taken during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1972 after John L. Shoemake, weather observer at Brockton Station on the Ross Ice Shelf in two Antarctic summer campaigns between 1968 and 1970.
