Shu-Aib Walters (born December 26, 1981 in Cape Town ) is a South African football goalkeeper .

Career

Shu-Aib Walters grew up in his native Cape Town , where he played in his youth and later in the senior division at several clubs such as Milano United, the Newtons, the Rygerdal Aces and the Clyde Pinelands AFC. In the 2004/05 season he drew attention to himself as a reliable goalkeeper of the Cape Town second division club Vasco da Gama. The team made it to the relegation games, but missed promotion. Walters got an offer from the first division club Bloemfontein Celtic and played in the Premier Soccer League from the following season .

There he was able to prove his class and he was also in talks with the national team from 2008 , but injuries threw him back over and over again in his career. In 2009 he had difficulties finding the connection again, so that Bloemfontein loaned him after the first half of the season to the league rivals Maritzburg United from Durban, who were in the relegation battle .

There he again showed a convincing performance and when two experienced goalkeepers were canceled due to injury in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup , which was hosted by South Africa, he moved up as number 3 in the preparatory games and finally he was officially in South Africa's World Cup squad , although he had not yet been used in the national team.
