Shuntaro Furukawa

Shuntarō Furukawa ( Japanese 古 川 俊 太郎 Furukawa Shuntarō ; born January 10, 1972 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese manager and since 2018 the sixth president in the history of the video game manufacturer Nintendo .

Life

Furukawa was born on January 10, 1972 in Tokyo  Prefecture and studied until 1994 at the Politics and Economics Faculty of Waseda University ( 早 稲 田 大学 政治 経 済 学部 Waseda daigaku seijikeizaigakubu ). In the same year he joined Nintendo, where he worked in various areas of accounting , in particular in controlling ; During this time he spent 10 years at the European Nintendo subsidiary “Nintendo of Europe” in Frankfurt am Main . In 2012, he was elected to the board of sub-company The Pokémon Company . After Tatsumi Kimishima was  temporarily appointed as the successor to the late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata in September 2015  , Furukawa was one of Kimishima's favorites as the new President and was promoted accordingly: In 2015 he was appointed Head of Corporate Planning ( 経 営 企 画室 長Keiei kikaku shitsuchō ) and Elected to the board in 2016, among others. Furukawa was also involved in the marketing of the Nintendo Switch and thus contributed significantly to its success.

Nintendo's satisfactory company balance sheet for fiscal year 2018, which ended on March 31, 2018, enabled the change of president, which had been planned since 2015, so that Furukawa was appointed Kimishima's successor on June 28, 2018 at the age of 46.
