Siamak Aghaei

Siamak Aghaei ( listen to ? / I ; * 1974 in Ahwaz ) is an Iranian santoor player and composer. Audio file / audio sample

Aghaei began his training as a santur player at the age of eight with Parviz Meshkatian and Masoud Shenasa . He later studied the classical Persian repertoire ( Radif ) with Mohammad Reza Lotfi and Majid Kiani . He graduated from the University of Tehran with a degree in music and has lived in Tehran as a composer and santoor teacher.

In addition to his work as a classical santur player, Aghaei created an audiovisual archive of the music and instruments from North Chorasan and arranged a series of radio lessons about the different schools of santoor play and their techniques. In 2000 he founded the Ensemble Santur Nazavan ( santur players ), with which he performs contemporary Iranian santur music (DVD Beyond Our Path , 2007).

Aghaei u. a. to Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project, Ed Spanjaard's Atlas Ensemble , Ross Daly's Labyrinth Modal Ensemble, and Naseer Shamma's Oriental Ensemble .
