Sidney Santos di Brito , called Sidney (born October 16, 1979 in Recife ) is a Brazilian football player .

Career

Sidney is a defender and began his career in his home country with FC Gremio Moreno (1991-1995). From there he moved as a teenager to Real Sociedade Moreno (1995-1997) and was discovered there by Sport Recife (1997-1999). Via Santa Cruz Recife he came to Fortaleza , where he was active from 1999 to 2001 for SC Ceará . The PSV Eindhoven took him to Europe in 2001; in a game of the PSV youth team he was used against Rot-Weiss Essen . In this game he was observed by VfL Osnabrück and signed shortly afterwards. Sidney played for Lower Saxony for three years, including the last year in the 2nd Bundesliga . In 2004 he moved to the second division promoted Rot-Weiss Essen. After the direct relegation of RWE, the left-back moved to Energie Cottbus for the 2005/2006 season . He was part of the promotion team that made it back to the Bundesliga in 2006 for the Lausitzers.

The Brazilian, who was retired from Cottbus, moved to Kickers Offenbach for the 2007/08 season . However, the contract with the Kickers was terminated without notice in February 2008 after Sidney had not returned from the winter break four weeks after the agreed date. In his career, Sidney has played one game in the Bundesliga and 78 games in the 2nd Bundesliga.

On February 7, 2009 it was announced that Sidney will initially play in the sixth highest German division until the end of the 2008/2009 season with the Westfalenligist SpVg Olpe .

For the 2009/2010 season, Sidney moved to Sportfreunde Lotte . When he was supposed to collect match practice in the second team in the 2010/11 season after a long injury break, he was seriously injured during a district league match. After difficulties in the healing process, both sides decided to terminate the contract in February 2011. It is questionable whether Sidney will be able to continue his career.
