The northern part of the Augsburg city forest is called the Siebentischwald . Its area is 660 hectares. Stadtwerke Augsburg operates several wells for drinking water in it. The Stempflesee is located in the northern part of the Siebentischwald . The Haunstetter forest is located south of the Siebentischwald.

Often colloquially as "Siebentischwald" the northern border Siebentisch plants referred. This is not correct, as the facilities are not part of the Siebentischwald, but a landscape park created in the 19th century .

Word origin

The name comes from a restaurant that was located in the forest and was a popular destination in the 19th century. According to tradition, it originally had seven tables and was therefore given the name "Siebentisch". The restaurant was so badly damaged in the air raid on Augsburg in 1944 that it was decided to demolish it.

Bark beetle plague

In February 1831, bark beetle infestation was found and advice was given to fell the infested trees while the beetles were still in the larval state.

Current situation

The Siebentischwald is partly owned by the city of Augsburg . Most recently, in autumn 2007, a larger section was sold to Stadtwerke Augsburg .

Others

In 2005 , seven tables were set up at the intersection of Ilsung and Siebentischstrasse, where the restaurant was once located.

On the night of October 28, 2011, a 41-year-old police officer was shot dead in the Siebentischwald ( police murder in Augsburg 2011 ).

The tennis facility of the TC Augsburg is located on the edge of the Siebentischwald, which is why the club is also known as TC Augsburg Siebentisch .
