The Stempflesee is a 1.4 hectare man-made lake in the southwest of the Augsburg district of Spickel-Herrenbach . It is part of the Augsburg Siebentischwald .
history
The start of planning was decided by the Augsburg magistrate on November 19, 1915. In the summer of 1924, work began on converting a former gravel pit at this point into a lake. Since the newly created lake floor could not permanently prevent the water introduced via a stream from seeping away, sealing work was necessary, which lasted until 1926. This work was carried out by unemployed people who belonged to a job creation measure created for this purpose .
Due to a bomb hit in the Second World War during the air raid on Augsburg in 1944, the lake leaked and stood empty for about two years before it was repaired.
The restaurant Siebentisch in the Siebentischwald existed until 1944 south of the Stempflesees lake . It was also hit by bombs and then torn down.
description
The namesake is the Augsburg magistrate Gottfried Stempfle, who has always campaigned for the construction of this park during his tenure. The Stempflesee received its official name on April 13, 1924. The construction of the lake was financed by the Katharina Wiedemann Foundation.
The Stempflesee is fed from the Gypsy stream diverted from the Brunnenbach . The lake can be circled on the 500 m long riverside path. The lake is well visited on weekends in all seasons, especially by ice-skaters in winter when the ice is stable . A large car park is located 700 m from the Stempflesee at the south sports facility. The closest tram stop is the Sportanlage Süd P + R stop on line 2.
Drinking water and nature reserve
At the Stempflesee you can mainly find ducks and occasionally geese. Mainly carp , bream and some tench swim in the water , which have an above-average population due to fewer predatory fish . Several pike can also be seen.
The Stempflesee lies on the edge of the drinking water protection area of the Augsburg city forest . Feeding water birds is therefore undesirable.
