Origin and development

The Dornbusch Ost settlement consists of the smaller area in the north, which was built by the Hellerhof Society between 1925 and 1939, and the larger southern area, which was built between 1950 and 1960 by the non-profit housing and settlement construction company. 165 apartments were built in the older section and 900 apartments in the younger section. All 1065 apartments have been subsidized with funds from social housing . Around 1830 people live in the 160 residential buildings (as of 2008).

The buildings in the first section are mostly arranged alongside the street and have three floors. The urban development of the 1950s development follows the model of a loosened city in a row construction . The four-storey residential buildings are mostly perpendicular to the street and accessed via residential paths. All multi-family houses are oriented to the west or east and have large green areas. There are single-family row houses on the western edge of the settlement. The five two-storey rows of houses face south and contain 30 apartments.

Development

The settlement is accessible from Marbachweg via Flensburger Straße. From the Eckenheimer Landstraße you can reach the area via the Schwabstraße. Eckernförderstrasse, Schleswigerstrasse and Rohlederstrasse are subordinate residential streets. The settlement is connected to public transport via a bus line in Marbachweg and the Eckenheimer Landstraße / Marbachweg tram station.

Infrastructure

The Dornbusch Ost settlement is predominantly a purely residential area. One-storey shop pavilions are only located along the Marbachweg. A day care center is located in the northwest.
