Like geography in general, settlement geography is also at the interface between various disciplines - such as sociology , architecture , history and urban planning . It is characterized by a holistic - spatial science interest.
Subdivision
Two sub-disciplines of human geography can be subordinated to settlement geography :
- the settlement geography of urban spaces ( urban geography );
- the settlement geography of rural areas (geography of rural settlements).
However, the classic division of the discipline into the above two sub-areas is increasingly disappearing, since the urban-rural contrast also merges into a continuum or a network.
