Siegfried Henkel

Siegfried Henkel (* 3. June 1931 in Dresden , † 14. May 1984 ) was a German vertebrate - paleontologist and well-known for research on Mesozoic mammals. He was a professor at the Free University of Berlin .

Henkel developed methods for extracting small vertebrate fossils from large amounts of sediment. He led the excavations with Bernard Krebs in the rich Jurassic fossil deposit Guimarota in Portugal . In 1991 , Krebs named Henkelotherium , a genus of Jurassic mammals whose first fossil was discovered by Henkel in 1976, after him.
