Siegfried Mittmann

Siegfried Mittmann (born October 12, 1933 ) is a Protestant theologian .

Life

After receiving his doctorate in Tübingen on February 24, 1967 and his habilitation in 1972, he taught at his alma mater as a professor of biblical archeology .

On behalf of the German Evangelical Institute for Classical Studies in the Holy Land , Mittmann carried out extensive surface examinations in the north east bank between Jabbok and Jarmuk from August 1963 to January 1966 . This work resulted in his dissertation, in which he described over 300 ruins and ancient settlement areas. In addition, he documented the course of the Roman road from Gerasa to Adraa using numerous milestones.

From 1984 to 1994 he researched the early Bronze Age city on the Hirbet ez-Zeraqon in collaboration with the Institute of Archeology and Anthropology at Yarmouk University in Irbid . In eight excavation campaigns, parts of the seven hectare city complex were exposed.

His daughter is the theologian Ulrike Mittmann .
