The Yarmouk University ( in Arabic جامعة اليرموك Jāmiʿat al-Yarmūk , DMG Ǧāmiʿat al-Yarmūk , English Yarmouk University (YU)) is a state university in the northern part of Irbid in Jordan .

history

The university was founded in 1976 by a decree of King Hussein I and is now one of the most prestigious universities in the country and region. In 2012 it had 34,400 students, with 62% women and 3,800 non-Jordanian students.
