Siegfried Schwärig (born March 26, 1931 ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association . There he worked for the BSG Chemie Karl-Marx-Stadt and the SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt .

Athletic career

On January 25, 1953, the 21-year-old Schwärig played his first league game for the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Chemnitz as a right defender in the away game of the second-rate GDR league at BSG Chemie Lauscha, which ended with a 2-0 defeat for Chemnitz. By the end of the season he only missed one game and finally made nine league appearances in his first season in the men's division of BSG Chemie. During this time, the BSG had adopted the name Chemie Karl-Marx-Stadt in accordance with the city's renaming . In the 1953/54 season Schwärig played only four times in the first half of the season, only then did he secure a regular position as a left defender. Of the 26 point games he played 17. The BSG ended the season as a climber in the GDR league.

In the 1954/55 league season too, Schwärig initially had a few dropouts, but was back in the Karl-Marx-Städter defense from matchday 8, initially on the left and in the second half of the season on the right. For the 1956 season, Schwärig was taken over by the newly founded SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt, whose football section took over the Oberligaplatz of BSG Chemie. As almost usual, Schwärig started his second league season with only a few five missions, only to play all point games in the second half of the season as a right defender. The following season, 1957, was reversed for Schwärig. This time he was in his standard position from the start in eleven games without interruption, then he only played four more point games sporadically.

The SC Motor had to relegate back to the GDR league at the end of the season. The 1958 league season brought Schwärig's career to an end at the Karl-Marx-Städter Klub. The league point game SC Motor - Chemie Zeitz (2: 3) on June 10, 1958 was Schwärig's 81st and last point game for Karl-Marx-Stadt. He had played 54 of them in the league, in all of his league games he remained without a goal. After leaving SC Motor, Schwärig moved to BSG Motor West Karl-Marx-Stadt , with whom he was promoted to the first GDR league in 1962 .
