Louise Goff Reece
Louise Goff Reece (born November 6, 1898 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † May 14, 1970 in Johnson City , Tennessee ) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1963 she represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Louise Reece was the daughter of US Senator Guy D. Goff (1866-1933) and thus also the granddaughter of Nathan Goff (1843-1920), who represented the state of West Virginia in both chambers of Congress . She later married Congressman B. Carroll Reece . She attended Miss Treat's School , Milwaukee Downer Seminary, and Miss Spence's School in New York City . She then served on the board of First Peoples Bank in Johnson City and chairman of the board of Carter County Bank in Elizabethton . In Clarksburg , she managed the family-owned company Goff Properties .
After the death of her husband, who died while serving as a congressman, she was elected as the Republican Party candidate in the due by-election for the first seat of Tennessee as its successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where she was elected on May 16. May 1961 took up her new mandate. By March 3, 1963, she ended the current legislative period in Congress . In the 1962 elections , she decided not to run again.
After retiring from the US House of Representatives, Louise Reece ran her extensive private businesses in Tennessee and West Virginia. She died in Johnson City on May 14, 1970.
