Edward Glenn "Ed" Bryant (born September 7, 1948 in Jackson , Tennessee ) is an American lawyer and politician . Between 1995 and 2003 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ed Bryant attended Jackson High School and then studied law at the University of Mississippi until 1972, among other things. At the same time he graduated from an officer school in the US Army , where he served until 1978. In 1977 and 1978 he taught constitutional law at the US Military Academy at West Point . From 1991 to 1993 he was a federal attorney for the western part of the state of Tennessee.

Politically, Bryant joined the Republican Party . In the 1994 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Don Sundquist on January 3, 1995 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2003 . In 1998 he became one of the appointees in the later unsuccessful impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton .

In 2002, Bryant declined to run for the US House of Representatives again. Instead, he applied unsuccessfully this year and again in 2006 to nominate his party for the US Senate election . Ed Bryant has been a federal magistrate judge for western Tennessee since December 2008 .
