James T. Sandford

James T. Sandford (* in Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1823 and 1825 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Sandford's life dates are largely unknown. He was born in Virginia and attended public schools there. He later moved to Columbia , Tennessee, where he worked in agriculture. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In the 1820s he joined the movement around the future US President Andrew Jackson .

In the congressional elections of 1822 Sandford was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly created eighth constituency of Tennessee , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1823. Since he was not confirmed in 1824, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1825 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, the trail of Sandford is lost again. The sources only note that he donated some of the wealth he had acquired in the meantime to found Jackson College in Columbia.
