William T. Haskell

William T. Haskell (born July 21, 1818 in Murfreesboro , Tennessee , †  March 12, 1859 in Hopkinsville , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Haskell was a nephew of Charles Ready (1802-1878), who also sat for Tennessee in Congress between 1853 and 1859 . He initially enjoyed a private education and then attended public schools in Murfreesboro. He later studied at the University of Nashville . He later worked as a lawyer. Haskell took part in a war against the Seminoles in 1836 and ten years later in the Mexican-American War .

Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . He was a member of the House of Representatives from Tennessee in 1840 and 1841 . In the congressional election of 1846 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Milton Brown on March 4, 1847 . Until March 3, 1849, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Haskell did not hold any other higher office. He died on March 12, 1859 in Hopkinsville and was buried in Jackson.
