Zachary D. Massey

Zachary David Massey (born November 14, 1864 in Marshall , Madison County , North Carolina , †  July 13, 1923 in Sevierville , Tennessee ) was an American politician . In 1910 and 1911 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Zachary Massey attended public schools in his home country. Between 1882 and 1886 he worked as a teacher in his native Marshall. After a subsequent medical degree at Louisville Medical College in Kentucky and his approval as a doctor, he began to work in his new profession from 1889 in Wears Valley (Tennessee). A year later, he moved his residence and practice to Sevierville. During the Spanish-American War he served in the medical service of the US armed forces. Between 1899 and 1904 he also acted as a postman in Sevierville.

Politically, Massey became a member of the Republican Party . From 1904 to 1906 he was a member of the Tennessee Senate . After the death of Congressman Walter P. Brownlow , he was elected as its successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the first seat of Tennessee , where he took up his new mandate on November 8, 1910. Since he was no longer running in the regular congressional elections of 1910 , he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1911 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Zachary Massey practiced as a doctor again. He also worked in the real estate industry. He died in Sevierville on July 13, 1923.
