Wynne F. Clouse (born August 29, 1883 in Cookeville , Putnam County , Tennessee , †  February 19, 1944 in Franklin , Tennessee) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1923 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Wynne Clouse attended his home public schools and the Cleveland Hill Academy at Pleasant Hill , which he graduated from in 1898. After a subsequent law degree at Cumberland University in Lebanon and his admission as a lawyer in 1911, he began to work in Cookeville in his new profession.

Politically, Clouse was a member of the Republican Party . In 1916 and 1924 he was a delegate to their Republican National Conventions . In the congressional election of 1920 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Cordell Hull (1871-1955) on March 4, 1921 . Between 1871 and 1995 he was the only Republican to represent that district in Congress . Since he was defeated by his predecessor Cordell Hull from the Democratic Party in 1922 , he was only able to complete one legislative period there until March 3, 1923.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Wynne Clouse first worked as a lawyer in Nashville and then for the Tennessee Central Railroad . In 1924 he was employed by the US Department of Justice . He then served as a state bankruptcy administrator in the Nashville area until 1940. Wynne Clouse died on February 19, 1944 in Franklin, where he was also buried.
