Andrew Jackson Clements (born December 23, 1832 in Clementsville , Clay County , Tennessee , †  November 7, 1913 in Glasgow , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1861 and 1863 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Andrew Clements first attended a private school and then Burritt College in Sparta . After completing a medical degree and becoming a doctor, he began to work in Lafayette in his new profession. Politically, as a unionist, he was against the exit of his state from the union. In the congressional election of 1860 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Reese Bowen Brabson on March 4, 1861 . Although Tennessee joined the Confederation , as a loyal supporter of the Union, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until the end of the legislature on March 3, 1863. The state then remained without a congressional representation until 1866.

After his tenure in Congress, Andrew Clements served as a military doctor in a Tennessee unit that served in the Union Army. Between 1866 and 1867 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Tennessee . He also practiced as a doctor again. He set up a school on his property. Andrew Clements died in Glasgow on November 7, 1913.
