James Henry Randolph

James Henry Randolph (born October 18, 1825 in Dandridge , Jefferson County , Tennessee , †  August 22, 1900 in Newport , Tennessee) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1879 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Randolph attended New Market Academy and then Holston College . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1850, he began to work in Dandridge in his new profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career. Between 1857 and 1861 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Tennessee, with one exception in 1859 . In 1865 he was elected to the State Senate. In 1869 he became a judge in the second judicial district of his home state.

Randolph was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1876 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the first constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded William McFarland on March 4, 1877 . Until March 3, 1879 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . After leaving the House of Representatives, James Randolph retired from politics. In the following years he worked in agriculture. He died in Newport on August 22, 1900.
