Diane Black

Diane Lynn Black (* 16th January 1951 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . From 2011 to 2019, she represented the 6th Congressional constituency of the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Diane Black attended the Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold until 1971 , where she was trained as a nurse. In 1992 she trained at Belmont University in Nashville and was licensed as a registered nurse. She later lectured on her subject at the Volunteer State Community College , Gallatin . At times she also worked for non-profit organizations .

Between 1999 and 2005, Black was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives ; from 2005 to 2010 she was a member of the State Senate . In the 2010 election she was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth congressional constituency of Tennessee with 67 percent of the vote against the Democrat Brett Carter , where she succeeded the no longer running Bart Gordon on January 3, 2011 . In Congress , she was a member of the Budget Committee and the Committee on Ways and Means and a subcommittee. Within her party, she was a member of the Republican Study Committee and, as a member of the Tea Party Caucus , a supporter of the Tea Party movement . She did not stand for re-election in 2018 and therefore left Congress on January 3, 2019. Instead, she ran for governor of Tennessee in 2018, unsuccessfully, in the Republican primary.

She is married to businessman Dave Black, with whom she has three grown children.
