Charles Edward Snodgrass

Charles Edward Snodgrass (born December 28, 1866 in Sparta , White County , Tennessee , †  August 3, 1936 in Crossville , Tennessee) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1903 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Snodgrass was a nephew of Henry C. Snodgrass (1848-1931), who also sat in Congress for the state of Tennessee between 1891 and 1895 . The younger Snodgrass attended public schools in his homeland. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Crossville in his new profession in 1888. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1898 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Benton McMillin on March 4, 1899 . After re-election in 1900, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1903 . In 1902 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After leaving the US House of Representatives, he worked as a judge at various courts until 1934. He then retired, which he spent in Crossville, where he died on August 3, 1936. He was married to Lola Adel Webb (1873-1944), with whom he had four children.
