John Henry Bowen

John Henry Bowen (born September 1780 in Washington County , Virginia , †  September 25, 1822 in Gallatin , Tennessee ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Bowen attended the public schools in Lexington ( Kentucky ). After completing a law degree and being admitted to the bar, he began working in his new profession in Gallatin. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson .

In the state-wide held congressional elections of 1812 he was elected for the then newly created fourth seat of the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took office on March 4, 1813. Until March 3, 1815, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the events of the British-American War of 1812 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, John Bowen worked again as a lawyer in Gallatin, where he died on September 25, 1822.
