Lon A. Scott

Lon Allen Scott (born September 25, 1888 at Cypress Inn , Wayne County , Tennessee , †  February 11, 1931 in Savannah , Tennessee) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1923 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

During his childhood, Lon Scott moved with his parents to Hardin County , where he attended public schools and the Savannah Institute . He then studied until 1915 at Cumberland University in Lebanon law. After that he did not work as a lawyer. He worked in trade, real estate and the wood business. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1913 and 1917 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Tennessee , where he headed the Republican parliamentary group from 1915. During World War I , Scott served as a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps .

In the 1920 congressional election , Scott was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Thetus W. Sims on March 4, 1921 . Since he was not confirmed in 1922, he was only able to serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1923 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Scott resumed his previous business activities. He lived in Savannah until his death on February 11, 1931.
