Career

John Baptista Ashe was a member of a well-known family of politicians. He was the older brother of William Shepperd Ashe (1814-1862), who represented North Carolina in Congress between 1849 and 1855 . He was also a cousin of Thomas Samuel Ashe (1812-1887), who was also a congressman for North Carolina from 1873 to 1877. His uncle John (1748-1802) was a delegate to the Continental Congress and also sat for North Carolina in the US House of Representatives.

Ashe visited the Fayetteville Academy and then to 1830 the Trinity College in Hartford ( Connecticut ). Brown on March 4, 1843 . Until March 3, 1845 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress. This was determined by the discussions about a possible annexation of the Republic of Texas , which had been independent of Mexico since 1836 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, John Ashe moved to Galveston, Texas, where he practiced as a lawyer. He died there on December 29, 1857.
