Parry Wayne Humphreys

Parry Wayne Humphreys (born 1778 in Staunton , Virginia , †  February 12, 1839 in Hernando , Mississippi ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1789 Parry Humphreys moved with his parents, first to Kentucky , then later to Tennessee. He attended the schools in his respective homeland. After completing a law degree and being admitted to the bar in 1801, he began working in his new profession in Nashville . From 1807 to 1813, Humphreys served as a judge in various courts in Tennessee, including from 1809 on the Tennessee Supreme Court . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson .

In the Tennessee state-wide congressional elections of 1812 , he was elected for the then newly created sixth seat of his state in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1813. Until March 3, 1815, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was shaped by the events of the British-American War .

In 1817, Humphreys ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate . From 1818 to 1836 he worked again as a judge in Tennessee. He then moved to Hernando, Mississippi, where he also worked in the banking industry. He died on February 12, 1839 in his new hometown. The Humphreys County is named after him.
