Thomas Jefferson Campbell

Thomas Jefferson Campbell (born 1786 in Rhea County , Tennessee , †  April 13, 1850 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1841 and 1843 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

The exact date and place of birth of Thomas Campbell are unknown. He attended the public schools in his home country. During the British-American War , he was on the staff of the commanding officer of the Militia Forces of Eastern Tennessee in 1813 and 1814. Between 1817 and 1819 he was an administrator in the House of Representatives from Tennessee . He also carried out this activity in 1821 and from 1825 to 1831. From 1833 to 1837 he was a member of this parliamentary chamber. Politically, Campbell became a member of the Whig Party in the 1830s .

In the congressional election of 1840 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the fourth constituency of Tennessee, where he succeeded Julius W. Blackwell on March 4, 1841 . Since he was not confirmed in 1842, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1843 . This was determined by the discussions between his party and President John Tyler . In addition, a possible annexation of the Republic of Texas , which had been independent of Mexico since 1836, was already being debated.

Thomas Campbell was employed by the Congress administration from 1847 until his death on April 13, 1850. He was buried in Calhoun .
